Hello, Potentially Faithful Reader!

A cool present from my sister.
A very nice present from my sister.

Hey! I have some new releases out! My third novel, a story collection, my fourth novel, and an oddly amusing (says me) (OTOH both this and my first novel are free in most places, so what’s the risk?) general-audience narrative nonfiction book covering computer/network/phone security and online privacy. Plus some stories!

Oh. You don’t necessarily recognize me. Well, I’m David Haywood Young, a writer who kind of hopes you meant to get to this page. But even if you didn’t? Stick around for a bit. We can try each other out, see how it goes, hold off on the juicy bits until the second date…

Oh. Went right off the reservation, didn’t I? Hmm. And didn’t even warn you it might happen.

Well, now you know something about me: I open my mouth and get myself into trouble. Generally I do it just for fun. A bad habit, I know. Hell, I’m the guy who named his second novel Pagan Sex, basically because I thought of it and it turned out nobody could stop me. Here’s another example–I’ll be posting free fiction, generally a story but sometimes an excerpt from something longer, every week on Wednesday starting 5/5/2016. I did this once before, for 17 weeks in a row. Now I plan to keep doing it forever, ’cause it was tremendous fun. Will it work? Maybe! Subscribe to the blog and I’ll send you story descriptions and links whenever something new goes up…but I’ll only have one story/excerpt up at a time. If you miss one? Well, that’s okay. I’ll publish everything somewhere else eventually.

After you look around the site…maybe you can tell me something about yourself too? See, there are plenty of writers who have thousands upon thousands of readers. They can’t respond to individuals. But I’m not one of those. Not sure I even want to be, actually. It sounds sort of lonely. We don’t do lonely around here if we can help it.

That said…I’m an indie, which means I do it all myself (or hire it done). So whatever you find here, it’s my fault. Ditto for the books and stories.

Is my stuff any good? Opinions will vary. Waist sizes too, but I’m not pointing any fingers. Er…what I mean is, so far the reviewers (mostly at Amazon) have been kind, and I’ve dedicated myself to this effort on a near-full-time basis to see where it goes. Always wanted to, and now I can. I promise to do my best. It’s my third “career,” you see (the others having been software and professional poker), and I figure I need to put time and effort into it. Sort of an apprenticeship, only to an ideal rather than a person.

Ideally? You’ll find a book or story you’ll enjoy. Or maybe more than one (this could actually happen…I think). Or maybe you’ll just come along and enjoy the journey with me. It really doesn’t work without you.

There are descriptions of books and stories, but most of this site’s content is in my blog. If you came here via some accursed device that makes the site navigation difficult (not naming any names, Kindle Paperwhite!) you can use the links below to get around:

  • My blog (book reviews, random rants, freebies, and…stuff that occurs to me)
  • Weekly free fiction (not good enough? you want a pony too?)
  • A list of my books
  • A list of my stories
  • Some info about me
  • A way to contact me
  • You could subscribe to the blog via email or RSS
  • Or maybe try the New Release Club to get early info about stuff I actually publish elsewhere. And it starts off with yet another free story. What’s not to like? (Well, maybe the story! But we’ll just pretend you’ll enjoy it, okay? That makes me happy.)

Thanks for coming by!
